The thermostat is specially designed to turn the power on and off to maintain each of the three pre-set temperatures and also use energy efficiently. The temperature will vary a few degrees on either side of the setting between turning on and off. However, the difference is almost imperceptible. The lower (14 watts) and middle settings will be comfortable temperatures in most households and climates. The highest setting (28 watts) is still less than half the power of a 60W lamp or porch light but will keep the seat warm in a very cold environment.
